FireSmartKids Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program was developed over 15 years ago by John Egan, a retired Fire Lieutenant from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. John currently serves as coordinator and lead instructor for the program.

Experience
John has over 17 years experience in Fire training and over 15 years experience teaching fire safety programs to children and families throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Certifications
Certified as a qualified adjunct instructor for the National Fire Academy for the Juvenile Firesetter I & II program,
Fire & Emergency Service Instructor (NFPA1041); Pro Board Certified, Public Fire & Life Safety Educator NFPA 1035)

Honors
October 2003 - The Massachusetts Coalition of Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Programs presented John with the Beacon Award for his work with juvenile firesetters within the Rhode Island and Massachusetts’s area. April 2005 - Northern Rhode Island Community Services honored John with a Champion award for his service within the community.

Related Experience
John has collaborated on writing several fire safety and juvenile firesetter intervention curriculum programs with members of the Massachusetts Coalition for Kids & Danger. John serves on the boards for Woonsocket Safe Communities, The Northern RI CASSP program, The Woonsocket Comprehensive Strategic Plan committee, Northern RI Community Services, the Woonsocket Substance Abuse Task Force and the Woonsocket Child Abuse Task Force. John also is a member of the Home Safety Council expert network. He previously served as chairman of the RI SAFEKIDS fire committee. Speaker Experience. John has taught at several juvenile firesetter and fire safety conferences around New England and the northeast. He also was involved in the filming and appeared in the Emmy award winning PBS Documentary “Wall of Fire,” as well as interviewed for articles in several local newspapers, and on radio and television.

John is a certified Fire and Life Safety Educator and is a member of The National International Association of Arson Investigators Juvenile Firesetter Committee, International Society of Fire Service Instructors, The International Fire Marshals Association, The National Fire Protection Agency serving on the Education Committee & the Technical Committee on Public Fire Educator Qualifications, The New England Fire Marshal Association, The Rhode Island Association of Fire Marshals, The Rhode Island Chapter of International Association of Arson Investigators, as well as a member of International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 732 and the Woonsocket Firemen Relief Association. Formerly a licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Cardiac level.
